Meet Emma-Sunshine
I grew up in Switzerland but spent every summer in Vermont, visiting my American family, many of whom are farmers. Those summers shaped my love for animals and rural life, and eventually inspired me to pursue hands-on work in animal care. Since then, I’ve gained experience working with a wide range of animals, from dairy goats and horses to rescued pigs, cows, and poultry, on farms, in sanctuaries, and stables. Whether I’m mucking stalls, mixing feed, or helping with vet visits, I approach each job with calm, capable care. Farm sitting isn’t just a service I offer — it’s something I truly care about.
My Experience
Ryders Up Farm, Vermont
December 2024 – Present
At this equine-focused stable, I muck out stalls, prepare and distribute grain and supplements, maintain paddock water systems, administer medications, and assist the vet during procedures. I also observe horses daily to ensure early detection of health or behavioral changes. This role has deepened my knowledge of horse care and built my confidence working around large animals.
Merrymac Sanctuary, Vermont
February 2025 – April 2025
I provided daily care to a wide range of rescued animals including pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, horses, and cows. I prepared special diets, administered medication, cleaned enclosures, and helped implement a refeeding program for two malnourished pigs. Working in a sanctuary setting reinforced my commitment to ethical and individualized animal care.
Joneslan Farm, Vermont
October 2024 – December 2024
At Joneslan Farm, I helped care for over 1,000 dairy goats. I operated mechanical milking systems, distributed feed based on herd nutritional needs, maintained clean bedding, and observed animal health closely during daily tasks. This high-volume environment sharpened both my efficiency and attention to detail.
Cattle Breeding Ranch, Wyoming
June 2024 – July 2024
While working on a cattle ranch in Wyoming, I herded cattle on horseback and with four-wheelers, cared for orphaned calves, and supported breeding operations. I also administered medications, including injections, and learned firsthand how to manage large herds across vast land. This role taught me the importance of calm, confident handling in high-pressure and fast-paced environments.
Dairy Farm, Switzerland
March 2024 – May 2024
At a 70-cow dairy farm in Switzerland, I assisted with daily milking using mechanical milking stands, maintained accurate feeding schedules, and ensured stable hygiene was consistently high. This role helped me strengthen my reliability and rhythm in structured farm routines.
Dairy Farm, Mongolia
October 2023
I worked on a remote, 100-cow dairy farm in Mongolia where I performed traditional hand-milking, cut and collected grass for feed, and closely monitored the health of the herd. This experience deepened my appreciation for low-tech, attentive animal care in challenging environments.
